US Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris leads her Republican rival, former President Donald Trump, by five points in national voting intention, according to a recent poll conducted after last Tuesday’s televised debate.

This five-point lead represents an increase compared to the last Ipsos survey in late August.

The poll, conducted Sept. 11-12 with a sample of 1,690 people, follows the Sept. 10 debate between Harris and Trump in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In the debate, broadcast on ABC, Harris appeared calm and presidential, while Trump took a more defensive stance and was repeatedly corrected by moderators for misinformation.
Fifty-two percent of respondents thought Harris won the debate, compared with just 21 percent who thought Trump performed better.
Despite the current advantage, the election will be decided in key states, where polls reflect a very close competition between the two candidates.
Is a second debate between Harris and Trump possible?
Harris’ campaign has called for a new debate before the Nov. 5 election, but Trump has rejected the proposal.
