Video Shows ICE Agents Reading Someone Else’s Mail Outside a Home

Footage from a doorbell camera captured several agents standing in front of the main entrance of a private home.

The video shows them examining mail left at the doorstep.

It is worth noting that, according to social media reports, the agents neither asked for permission nor presented a judicial warrant.

In the recording, one of the agents leans over the envelopes and asks, “Is there a mailbox?”

One of the ICE agents then picks up the mail and begins reading it. He calls another agent over and asks, “What’s the guy’s name?”

As the second agent approaches, he issues a clear warning: “They could be watching us on the Ring.”

The other responds, “I know… but what’s his name?” while continuing to review the envelopes.

What the Recording Shows

In a calm voice, one of them adds, “Don’t worry too much about that… I want to see if his name is on this.”

The exchange is recorded with both audio and video.

After flipping through the envelopes, the agents place the mail back where it was.

They then leave. No warrant, no consent, and no explanation.

Why This Matters

Reviewing U.S. mail without a judicial warrant is a federal crime.

This is established under Sections 1702 and 1708 of Title 18 of the United States Code.

The law provides no exceptions based on proximity, curiosity, or convenience.

• There is no exception for neighbors.
• There is no exception for immigration enforcement or federal agents.
• There is no exception for “just checking a name.”

Mail left at the entrance of a private residence remains protected under federal law.

It does not lose that protection simply because it is visible. It does not lose it even if it is not inside a locked mailbox.

In this case, the agents did more than handle the envelopes—they read them. And they did so with the explicit purpose of identifying a person by name.

The audio shows they knew they were being recorded. They said it out loud. Even so, the ICE agents continued reading the mail.
