Bubbly Kaur was detained on December 1, 2025, during a scheduled biometric appointment. According to her family, this was a standard step in her process to obtain lawful permanent resident status.
Kaur arrived in the United States in 1994 with her husband and three young children. Since then, she built a life in Long Beach, where she is widely known for her work and involvement in the local community.

She is currently being held at the Adelanto ICE Processing Center. Her family has reported inhumane conditions and serious difficulties communicating with her.
Resident Detained by ICE Despite Approved Green Card
According to her eldest son, Kaur’s green card had already been approved but had not yet been physically issued by the government. Her detention occurred just days after the couple celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary.
This year has been especially difficult for the family. Kaur’s husband was diagnosed with cancer, and she lost her job as a cashier. Her arrest deepened an already severe emotional and financial crisis.
The family’s attorney has filed a habeas corpus petition requesting that a court review the legality of her detention.
How ICE Arrests Impact the Latino Community
ICE arrests at immigration appointments have generated frustration and fear among Latino families. Many individuals attend these appointments believing they are complying with the law, only to worry that showing up for official procedures could place them at risk.
Community organizations and Long Beach residents have voiced support for the family, describing Kaur as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother with deep roots in the city.
What Officials and Advocates Are Saying
Congressman Robert Garcia, who represents the Long Beach district, called the arrest inhumane.
“We are encouraging people to do things the right way—and then we detain them at the very appointments we invite them to attend,” he told the LA Times.
Garcia submitted a request to USCIS seeking expedited delivery of Kaur’s green card, citing the urgent medical condition of her husband.
What Comes Next
A GoFundMe campaign has raised $28,000 to cover legal and communication expenses.
As the legal process continues, the family hopes Kaur will be released and that her case will help prevent future ICE arrests at immigration appointments, particularly for individuals who are actively and lawfully pursuing permanent residency.
