A Hispanic father of five was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in San Antonio, Texas, despite being in the middle of an active legal immigration process.
The arrest has caused deep concern in the local Latino community, as the man’s family insists that he was unjustly detained.
The man, identified as Andrés Morales, originally from Monterrey, Mexico, is now awaiting a December hearing that will determine his future in the United States.
ICE Detention in San Antonio: A Case That Sparks Outrage

His wife, Briseyda, who is also the mother of their children, is now leading a public fundraising campaign to cover legal expenses and seek her husband’s release while his case proceeds.
According to Univision, the case has generated outrage because Morales carried documents proving that his immigration status was pending.

Despite that, he was handed over to ICE following an initial arrest by Texas state authorities.
“He was detained even though he had an approved deferred action and was waiting for his work permit,” his wife said.
The family argues that the detention was arbitrary and violated his legal rights.
Detained During the Workday
Andrés Morales, 31, was detained on September 29 while driving for work. He was heading down Military Avenue, on the west side of San Antonio, when he was stopped by Texas Department of Public Safety officers.
He worked delivering vegetables to local businesses to support his family and was the main breadwinner for his wife and five children — including a two-month-old baby.
According to his wife, the officers did not explain the reason for the stop. Morales was unable to present a driver’s license because he is still awaiting documentation related to his ongoing immigration process.
Even after showing evidence that his case was active, he was handed over to federal immigration agents and later transferred to the Karnes Detention Center in Texas.
“I’m Asking for Help for My Family,” Says His Wife
The family is now in a critical situation, Briseyda explained, as she faces mounting legal fees and must care for her five children alone.
“Hello, my name is Briseyda, and with all my heart I ask for your help and prayers for my family,” she wrote on her GoFundMe page. “My husband was detained by ICE even though he was waiting for his work permit and had an approved deferred action. They didn’t let him go.”
Andrés Morales’s hearing is scheduled for December 8, and he will remain in custody until then while the family continues fundraising efforts to pay for his defense.
One of the couple’s daughters has ADHD and requires constant therapy. “My children are heartbroken,” Briseyda added.

Fundraising Campaign for Andrés Morales
Due to the loss of income and growing legal costs, the Texas family launched an online fundraising campaign to cover attorney fees and request Andrés Morales’ release on bond.
“Thank God I still have a job to support my children during this process, but it’s extremely hard,” said Briseyda.
She explained that she now balances long work hours with caring for her children, all without her husband’s support.
The family has called on the Latino community for help, asking for donations, shares, or prayers.
“We ask from the heart that you keep helping us — whether it’s by sharing, donating, or simply praying,” she said.
The story has spread on social media, where dozens have expressed solidarity and support.
Meanwhile, the legal status of Andrés Morales remains in the hands of the immigration court, according to Univisión.
