Migrants in the United States are maintaining pressure on companies like Home Depot, Walmart, Target, and fast-food chains to publicly oppose raids carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Community organizations argue that these industries have a responsibility to defend the immigrant community, since much of their workforce and customer base comes from it.
“These companies depend on those families, on those workers, and they are allowing injustices to happen on their properties,” warned Martha Arévalo, executive director of the Central American Resource Center in Los Angeles.
According to testimonies, federal agents have entered parking lots and stores without restriction, while activists protesting are the ones whose access is limited.

The complaints focus on the role of corporations that employ private security on their properties but, according to activists, do not oppose immigration operations inside their establishments.
“We are asking for what is fair: that corporations recognize the importance of this community and not allow federal authorities to break the law on their property,” Arévalo emphasized.

Since last week, activists have called for protests and sought to highlight the responsibility companies bear in protecting rights, according to Sin Embargo.
On August 12, they launched a boycott, urging people not to shop at businesses like Home Depot, Walmart, Target, McDonald’s, and other fast-food restaurants.

The reason behind this campaign is that, according to organizers, these companies have allowed their premises to be used as points where ICE agents violate the rights of workers and customers.
They claim the most frequent raids have taken place in Home Depot parking lots, places where migrants gather to seek temporary jobs or buy construction materials.
They further argue that these industries have a history of exploiting workers, which increases indignation within the community.
The protests aim to pressure corporations to take clear and public positions regarding ICE operations, with the goal of preventing further human rights violations on their premises.
Activists Call for a National Boycott
Migrant leaders argue that if these companies rely economically on the labor and spending power of this population, then they have a moral obligation to protect it.
The movement has gathered hundreds of participants in different cities, and the boycott campaign is expected to continue in the coming weeks.
Activists stress that this is not merely a symbolic demand but part of an effort to change the way corporations respond to the persecution of vulnerable communities.
