According to the Los Angeles Times, 25-year-old US citizen Carlos Jiménez was shot in the back by agents of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the city of Ontario, California.

His attorneys stated that Jiménez was trying to warn agents about children gathering near a school bus stop.

The incident, which occurred on the morning of October 16, marks the second ICE-related shooting in Southern California in just over a week.

Jiménez, a father of three, was wounded in the right shoulder, and his case has reignited the debate over the use of force in civilian communities.

According to Carlos Jiménez’s lawyers, he was on his way to work when he noticed ICE agents conducting an arrest near a school zone.

Concerned for the safety of nearby children, he approached to warn them that students were about to arrive at the bus stop.

Moments later, one of the agents drew his firearm and, after a brief exchange, fired at Jiménez’s vehicle as he tried to drive away.

“The use of deadly force must be a last resort,” said his attorney Cynthia Santiago.

The official statement from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) claims that the man “attempted to hit agents by reversing directly toward them without stopping.”

According to a federal complaint, Jiménez allegedly accelerated backward toward a Border Patrol agent and a vehicle containing three people.

After the shooting, he was arrested and charged with assaulting a federal officer but was later released on bail.

His attorneys insist he acted out of fear and that the shooting was unjustified.

Community Condemns Violence and Demands Accountability

The case has sparked outrage and concern across Southern California, where ICE has been involved in multiple confrontations in recent months.

Just a week earlier, agents shot another man in South Los Angeles, intensifying criticism of the agency’s aggressive tactics.

Civil rights advocates and community leaders are demanding an independent investigation into ICE’s use of force in residential neighborhoods.

“These are not war zones — these are communities where children and families live,” said attorney Santiago.

Calls to Review ICE Federal Protocols

This latest shooting has placed ICE’s operational procedures under scrutiny, raising questions about accountability in cases involving lethal force.

Similar incidents have recently been reported in San Bernardino and Chicago, with accusations of excessive violence.

Carlos Jiménez is still recovering from his injuries while his legal team prepares a lawsuit against the federal government.

“The community deserves transparency — and families deserve safety,” said attorney Robert Simon.
