Hurricane Milton impacted Florida’s west coast Wednesday night as a Category 3 storm, leaving significant devastation in its wake.
The cyclone, which reached maximum sustained winds of 120 mph (205 km/h), made landfall near Siesta Key, a famous stretch of beaches located about 70 miles south of Tampa.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) warned of potentially deadly storm surge and flooding in the region.
Images of the storm show coastal areas severely affected by flooding and gusts of wind that ripped off roofs and trees.
DEVASTATION AFTER THE IMPACT OF HURRICANE MILTON

The hurricane left more than a million homes and businesses without electricity, especially in Sarasota and Manatee counties.
The storm hit Florida that is still recovering from Hurricane Helene, which left in its wake severe damage and the deaths of a dozen people in Pinellas County.

With danger imminent from Milton, local authorities urged residents to evacuate, although some officials declared that time to evacuate had run out.
Polk County Emergency Management Director Paul Womble noted:

Additionally, several tornadoes associated with the hurricane formed in the region, adding more danger to the situation.
Milton is expected to remain a hurricane as it moves across the Florida peninsula into the Atlantic, according to AP.
