- Fugitive from Mexican Justice
- Accused of Multi-Million Dollar Money Laundering
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested Mexican businessman Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga, husband of TV host Inés Gómez Mont, in Miami, Florida.
Álvarez Puga had been a fugitive from Mexican justice since 2021, facing charges of organized crime and money laundering. According to ICE records, Álvarez Puga is currently being held at the Krome Detention Center, located west of Miami.
While ICE has not provided specific details about the reasons for the arrest, his transfer to Krome suggests a migration-related case, opening the possibility of deportation to Mexico.
The Mexican Attorney General’s Office (FGR) has maintained an active arrest warrant since September 2021, along with an Interpol red notice issued the following month.
Million-Dollar Accusations and a Network of Shell Companies

Álvarez Puga and Inés Gómez Mont are accused of organized crime, embezzlement, and money laundering.
Mexican authorities allege that both were involved in the diversion of more than 3 billion pesos (over $160 million USD) through a network of shell companies.

Investigators claim that Álvarez Puga, his brother Alejandro Álvarez Puga, and several associates created fake firms to evade taxes and launder public funds.
Meanwhile, Inés Gómez Mont, known for hosting popular shows like Ventaneando, has denied the allegations, insisting she is “innocent.”
Inés Gómez Mont and Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga: Couple Surrounded by Media Scandal
The case has drawn major attention in both Mexico and the United States, partly due to Gómez Mont’s fame and controversial public history.
In 2008, the host went viral after publicly declaring her love for Tom Brady at a Patriots press conference — dressed as a bride.
Married since 2015, the couple has six children and has largely stayed out of the public eye since Mexican authorities issued warrants for their arrest.
Since then, Gómez Mont has used her social media platforms to defend her reputation and claim she is the victim of political persecution.

Financial Background and Previous Allegations
Álvarez Puga’s legal troubles date back to 2010, when Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and the Tax Administration Service (SAT) began investigating his firm Álvarez Puga y Asociados.
The SAT determined that the company promoted illegal employment practices, helping businesses misclassify workers as “cooperative members” to avoid social security payments and profit sharing.
In 2012, The New York Times published an investigation linking the firm to a network of ghost companies. By 2016, Inés Gómez Mont herself faced tax discrepancies, eventually paying 2.6 million pesos to the SAT to settle the issue.
Now, with Álvarez Puga detained by ICE, Mexico may begin extradition proceedings, marking a new chapter in one of the country’s most high-profile financial scandals, according to reports from EFE and Proceso.
