Iran launched a missile attack this Monday on the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, where US forces are stationed, in direct response to US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

The announcement was made by Iranian state television, which described the operation as a “powerful and successful response by the Iranian Armed Forces to American aggression.”

The attack comes just days after the US carried out Operation Midnight Hammer, which destroyed three key sites of Iran’s nuclear program: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

The US offensive was conducted at Israel’s request to halt what it described as an imminent threat of Iran developing nuclear weapons.

Iran had previously warned that it would “respond decisively.”

The temporary closure of Qatari airspace earlier in the day set the stage for this attack.

Which raises the risk of a direct regional confrontation.

Qatar Condemns the Attack, Says There Were No Casualties

Qatar’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that the missiles were intercepted by its air defense system and reported no casualties or significant damage to the US military base.

The foreign ministry labeled the attack as a “flagrant violation of sovereignty and international law.”

Qatar, a strategic US ally and host of both the Combined Air Operations Center and the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, called for an immediate ceasefire.

And expressed its commitment to promoting diplomatic negotiations to de-escalate tensions.

A Symbolic Base for the US

President Donald Trump visited Al Udeid last May, where he reaffirmed the mutual defense commitment between Washington and Doha.

“I won’t start wars, but I will never hesitate to defend the United States or our allies,” he declared before US and Qatari troops.

For now, the Trump administration has not confirmed details about potential damage or any immediate response, though it had previously warned that any Iranian retaliation could trigger further US military action.
