The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet intelligence service confirmed on Saturday the death of Hakham Muhammad Issa Al-Issa, one of the founders of Hamas’s military wing and regarded as responsible for the October 7, 2023 massacre.

The joint operation took place in the Sabra neighborhood in Gaza City.

According to the official statement from the Israeli army, Al-Issa led the Combat Support Headquarters, coordinating drone, missile, and naval unit attacks against both military and civilian targets in Israel.

This was reported by Infobae.

Israel Eliminates Senior Hamas Commander

Israel attributes to Al-Issa a central role in planning and executing the October 7, 2023 attack.

During that unprecedented incursion, Hamas militants killed over a thousand Israelis, sparking the ongoing war in Gaza.

Israeli authorities described him as one of the few veteran leaders still active, with decades of experience in building Hamas’s military infrastructure.

He oversaw training and developed tactics for ground, aerial, and naval attacks.

Blow to Hamas Command Structure

The Israeli army described the operation as a “significant blow” to Hamas’s leadership, directly targeting its command and reorganization capabilities.

According to the statement, Al-Issa’s death is part of a broader strategy to dismantle Hamas’s command structure and reduce its ability to respond in Gaza.

The Shin Bet emphasized that Israeli forces will continue seeking out and eliminating leaders responsible for the October massacre and subsequent attacks.

The elimination of Al-Issa was presented as a key objective in that plan.

Offensive Continues in Gaza

The operation comes amid intensified hostilities in Gaza since October.

Israel continues airstrikes and ground operations aimed at destroying tunnels, weapons stockpiles, and command centers to weaken Hamas and other armed factions.

While Israel hails the killing of a strategic leader of the extremist group, reports from Gaza highlight the impact of the offensive on the civilian population and urban infrastructure, amid a war that has claimed thousands of lives and shows no clear path toward resolution.
