An Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip has killed at least 40 people and injured 60 others, according to Palestinian authorities on Tuesday.
The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported these figures, citing local medical officials.
The attack took place in the coastal community of Mawasi, a zone designated by the Israeli military as humanitarian, where many Palestinians displaced by the conflict between Israel and Hamas reside.
According to the Israeli military, the strike targeted «Hamas terrorists operating within a command and control center.»

However, they did not provide concrete evidence to support this claim.
Hamas, in turn, denied these accusations in an official statement.
Videos circulating on social media show the devastation at the site of the attack, with deep craters and debris scattered everywhere.
Rescuers and bystanders quickly mobilized to search for survivors among the rubble, using shovels and their hands, often lit only by their cell phone flashlights.
One of the craters at the attack site reached a depth of up to 10 meters.
The Israeli military claimed to have used «precision munitions, aerial surveillance, and other means» to minimize civilian casualties in the area.
Nevertheless, the international community remains concerned about the high number of victims.
In a related development, the United Nations agency responsible for distributing aid to displaced Palestinians reported that a humanitarian convoy was detained.
The Israeli military reportedly stopped the convoy for more than eight hours on Monday.
Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the agency, stated that UN staff were working on a polio vaccination campaign in northern Gaza and Gaza City when the incident occurred.
According to Lazzarini, the convoy was held at gunpoint, and UN vehicles suffered significant damage from Israeli bulldozers.
So far, the Israeli military has not responded to AP’s requests for comments on the United Nations’ allegation.
