A deadly shooting shocked Washington, D.C., on Wednesday night when two employees of the Israeli Embassy in the United States were gunned down outside the Capital Jewish Museum.

The attack occurred during a diplomatic event organized by the American Jewish Committee (AJC), which was aimed at fostering ties between young Jewish professionals and diplomatic representatives.

What Happened:

A shooting outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., left two employees of the Israeli Embassy in the United States dead on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred during an American Jewish Committee (AJC) event aimed at strengthening ties between young Jewish professionals and diplomatic representatives.

Context of the Attack on the Employees:

According to local media, the attacker shouted “Free Palestine” while being arrested outside the museum.

One of the victims, initially reported in critical condition, later died at the hospital. The shooting took place near the local FBI office, accelerating coordination between federal and diplomatic agencies.

What Authorities Are Saying:

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem confirmed on X:

“Two employees of the Israeli Embassy were senselessly killed tonight near the Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. (…) We are actively investigating and working to gather more information to share.”

FBI Director Kash Patel stated that coordination is underway with the Metropolitan Police to clarify the events.

The FBI’s local office also said:

“There is no threat to public safety.”

Reactions from Israel:

Naim Cohen, spokesperson for the Israeli Embassy in the U.S., stated on social media:

“The two members of the Israeli delegation in Washington were shot at point-blank range.”

Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, described the attack as:

“a vile act of antisemitic terrorism.”

“Harming the Jewish community crosses a red line.

We trust U.S. authorities will take firm action against those responsible for this criminal act. Israel will continue to act with determination to protect its citizens and representatives around the world,” he concluded.

From the U.S. Judicial System:

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced on X that she had traveled to the scene with Jeanine Ferris Pirro, Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.

“We pray for the victims of this violence as we work to better understand what has happened,” Bondi stated.

Jewish Community Responds to the Israeli Embassy Employees’ Murder:

Ted Deutch, CEO of the AJC, confirmed that his committee had organized the event the victims were attending:

“We are devastated by the heinous act of violence that occurred outside the venue.”
