Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro was discharged on Wednesday after spending a night hospitalized in a private clinic in Brasília.

His medical team confirmed that he has been diagnosed with early-stage skin cancer, though for now he does not require specific treatment.

The 70-year-old far-right leader returned to his residence, where he has been under house arrest since August for disobeying court rulings.

During his hospital stay, doctors removed eight skin lesions, two of which tested positive for squamous cell carcinoma.

This form of skin cancer is at an early stage and requires regular monitoring, but according to the medical report, it does not pose an immediate risk.

Specialists clarified that it is not the simplest type of skin cancer, but neither is it among the most aggressive, according to EFE.

From now on, Bolsonaro will be monitored gradually at his residence by his healthcare team.

Additional Complications During Hospitalization

Jair Bolsonaro was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday after experiencing vomiting, dizziness, and low blood pressure at his home.

He arrived suffering from dehydration, persistent anemia, and impaired kidney function, raising concern among his circle.

Doctors detected elevated creatinine levels and an accelerated heart rate, leading to treatment with IV fluids and medications.

An MRI was also performed to rule out neurological complications, which showed no acute issues.

His condition was described as a “partial improvement,” enough to allow him to return home under observation.

Judicial Context and Recent Conviction

Jair Bolsonaro’s hospitalization comes at a particularly critical moment for his political and personal life.

Last week, the First Chamber of the Supreme Court sentenced him to 27 years in prison for attempting a coup d’état after losing the 2022 election to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Alongside him, seven of his former allies—including ex-ministers and military officials—were sentenced to terms ranging from 16 to 27 years.

The historic ruling keeps Bolsonaro under house arrest in his Brasília residence while the judicial process continues.

This new skin cancer diagnosis adds pressure to his already fraught situation, as he will now depend on frequent checkups to monitor the disease’s progression.
