Videos of the terrifying moment were shared on social media by journalists and media outlets covering the campaign rally.
In one of the videos you can see how Jorge Álvarez Máynez went from euphoria to terror, when he realized how a giant tarp with his party’s logo was falling.
Máynez, as he is popularly known, fled in terror, leaving his companions on the stage that was completely covered with the tarps and the heavy lighting equipment that fell on them.
Another video shows how the former stage was completely collapsed, without knowing where the people on top had been.
Máynez returned to the scene of the incident

Jorge Álvarez Máynez posted on social media that he went to the hospital after the accident at a rally in the wealthy suburb of San Pedro Garza García, near the city of Monterrey.
He said there were “victims,” but did not specify how many or how serious their injuries were. Álvarez Máynez wrote that he was “fine,” but did not explain why he went to the hospital.
“The only important thing right now is to take care of the victims of the accident,” he wrote, according to The Associated Press.
He later confirmed that he returned to the scene: “The mayor of San Pedro and the governor of Nuevo León are also there. I will be here until the last injured person is taken to a hospital.”
‘Unfortunately there are people injured’

Samuel García, the governor of the northern border state of Nuevo León and a leading member of Álvarez Máynez’s Citizen Movement party, said in a recorded statement that “unfortunately, there are people injured.”
Miguel Treviño, the mayor of San Pedro Garza García, wrote on social media that “people are reported trapped and injured. My prayers are with the victims.”
García said that “strong winds knocked down a stage at the close of the campaign,” according to The Associated Press.
These events are taking place this week and next in anticipation of the June 2 presidential, state and municipal elections in Mexico.
AMLO comfirms there were deaths after the collapse

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was quick to express his solidarity with Máynez, his party and the victims.
“I regret the accident in San Pedro Garza García, caused by a strong wind during the event attended by Jorge Álvarez Máynez, presidential candidate for Movimiento Ciudadano and other militants, leaders and candidates of that party.”
“According to what Samuel García, governor of Nuevo León, who is at the scene of the incident, informs me, four deaths and 15 injuries are reported,” the president said on X.
“I embrace family members, friends of the victims and supporters of that organization. We are attentive,” he concluded his message.
