Karla Álvarez studied at Televisa’s Center for Artistic Education, and she graduated from the National School of Classical and Contemporary Dance.

In 1992 she began her acting career in the telenovela María Mercedes, also starring Thalía, which became a huge success.

Shortly after, she landed her first leading role in Mi Querida Isabel, alongside actor Ernesto Laguardia.

This was followed by Agujetas de Color de Rosa, Prisionera de Amor, Mujeres Engañadas, La Intrusa, ¡Vivan los Niños!, La Mentira and many more.

Karla Álvarez finds love

In an interview on the show Miembros al Aire, Alexis Ayala confessed that his marriage to Karla Álvarez was the result of a drunken night.

The actor recalled that he partied for several months, and during that stage of his life, he decided to get married. They were together for two years.

Later on, the actress married stage director Armando Zafra, but that wasn’t her last walk down the aisle.

After the actress’s death, a man named Antonio D’Agostino claimed to have been married to her but she sued him for domestic violence.

How did Karla Álvarez die?

For several years, it was said that the cause of Karla Álvarez’s death was cardiorespiratory arrest caused by bulimia and anorexia.

It wasn’t until 2017 that the truth came to light — the actress died from acute respiratory failure related to viral pneumonia.

According to Univisión, on the day of her death, Karla got up in the morning but went back to bed because she felt unwell.

After getting up, at 1:30 p.m., she had some quesadillas for lunch when she began to have a coughing fit that left her breathless. She died after 2 p.m.

No autopsy was performed

Karla Álvarez’s physical condition led many people to believe that she suffered from anorexia and bulimia, something she denied.

Her housekeeper found the actress dead in her private home in Mexico City.

It is worth noting that there was no autopsy performed, which fueled speculation and rumors about her cause of death.

Karla had been sick for several days with symptoms of cough and fever. Perhaps something more could have been done to save her life.

Aracely Arámbula mourned Karla Álvarez’s death

According to Noroeste, Aracely Arámbula was distraught at Karla Álvarez’s wake.

‘La Chule’ said that Karla was a happy woman with a great sense of humor and they had a beautiful friendship.

«That time we talked, we agreed to see each other soon, we talked about children, life, and she told me that she also wanted to be a mother,» said Aracely.

Director Pedro Damián, actress Maribel Guardia and actor Alexis Ayala were also at the wake.
