According to EFE, an unprecedented legal battle has erupted in Los Angeles following the filing of what’s being called a “historic” lawsuit against the government of President Donald Trump.
The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California and accuses the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of carrying out illegal and discriminatory immigration raids based on racial profiling.
In 63 pages, the complaint details how federal agents have allegedly “kidnapped and disappeared” community members in operations that plaintiffs’ attorneys describe as unconstitutional.
The legal document accuses DHS of detaining immigrants in a federal building in Los Angeles under hazardous conditions for their health, while also denying them the fundamental right to communicate with attorneys.
Illegal and Repressive Immigration Raids

Five detained workers, along with four organizations—Los Angeles Worker Center Network, United Farm Workers Union (UFW), CHIRLA, and the Immigrant Defenders Law Center—are listed as plaintiffs.
They allege that Trump’s government arrested and detained people “arbitrarily” to fulfill arrest quotas that violate the Fourth and Fifth Amendments of the Constitution.
Therefore, they are requesting both temporary and permanent court orders to prevent future raids and ensure respect for constitutional rights.
The legal team behind the lawsuit includes attorneys from the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California (ACLU SoCal) and Public Counsel, among other groups.

They aim to turn the case into a class action lawsuit to protect people in seven counties across the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
Mohammad Tajsar, an attorney with ACLU SoCal, called the case “historic,” emphasizing that these raids have been “illegal, immoral, and unconstitutional.”
He stated that “since June 6, masked thugs and prowlers have invaded Los Angeles, terrorizing communities of color and violating the Constitution in the process.”
The lawsuit was announced symbolically at a car wash in the city of Torrance, where one of the most controversial incidents took place.
Excessive Violence and Inhumane Conditions

On June 22, masked men wearing Border Patrol vests stormed into the car wash and filmed scenes of the violent detention of several workers, which later went viral.
Enmanuel, owner of the Bubble Bath Car Wash, recounted that agents forcibly entered restricted areas like machinery tunnels and used unnecessary violence against his employees.
“They basically treated them like criminals, without dignity,” said Enmanuel, criticizing the lack of justification for such a level of force in the United States.
Emily Hernández, a relative of one of the detained Salvadoran workers, tearfully denounced the uncertainty over his whereabouts.
Racial Profiling and Rights Violations
Ten days after the arrest, family members still don’t know where he is or have been given a case number by ICE.
“It feels like we don’t matter, like our voice doesn’t have value, but we do matter, my uncle matters,” said Hernández.
Attorneys alleged that the arrests were carried out by ICE based on racial profiling and that detainees are being held incommunicado under conditions that violate due process.
Mark Rosenbaum, of Public Counsel, warned that authorities are taking many people to federal facilities described as “dungeons,” which are overcrowded and lack adequate access to food, hygiene, or medical care.
Suspension of Raids and Legal Access
He asserted that the goal of these draconian tactics is “to dismantle basic due process rights” and to conceal from the public the cruel and inhumane treatment detainees are receiving, often stigmatized as violent criminals because of their skin color.
The plaintiffs are asking the court to order an immediate halt to ICE raids and to guarantee access to legal representation for those already detained by authorities.
For now, the plaintiffs have notified the U.S. Department of Justice about the lawsuit. However, the Department has indicated that its response will be delayed due to the Independence Day holiday.
“The Constitution doesn’t take a vacation,” emphasized Rosenbaum, assuring that the lawsuit seeks to disprove the notion that these people can be arrested without warrants or access to an attorney.
