At 11:04 a.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2022, the HPD emergency number received a call alerting them to a shooting at the Martínez Tire Shop located at 7550 Bellfort Avenue, southeast of the Houston Metropolitan area. Many immigrants from Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico live in the area.

When the officers arrived at the tire shop they found two men inside the store, one of them Joseph Miranda, lying on the floor badly injured. The officers requested the urgent presence of paramedics from the Houston Fire Department (HFD).
