Mario Guevara Remains Detained by ICE, Now in Floyd County

Salvadoran journalist Mario Guevara remains in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the Floyd County Jail in northwest Atlanta, after being transferred from Gwinnett County on Thursday.
Family Posted Bail, but ICE Retained Him
Mario Guevara had initially been booked into the Gwinnett County Jail on three traffic violations: reckless driving, running a red light, and using a cell phone while driving.
His family paid the $3,900 bail, but ICE immediately transferred him to Floyd County, where he is now being held without the possibility of bond, according to the county jail records.

Expected to Remain Detained Until Monday
Due to the Fourth of July holiday, Guevara is expected to remain detained at least until Monday, while his family works to secure his potential release.
Mario Guevara Was Detained While Covering a Protest
Mario Guevara was arrested on June 14 while covering a protest against Donald Trump and immigration raids in DeKalb County. Although the initial charges were dismissed, ICE retained him because he does not have permanent resident status.
