Shake again! Three micro-earthquakes are recorded in Mexico City

This Tuesday, December 12, on the Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe, several micro-earthquakes were recorded in Mexico City.

Various media outlets such as ‘El universal‘, reported the telluric movements.

There were a total of three micro-earthquakes that were reported through social media by residents of Mexico City.

A telluric movement with a lower degree of severity than a powerful earthquake is called a microseism.

The seismic alert in Mexico City was not activated, perhaps due to the low level of intensity of them.

However, many people assured on social media that they were noticeable.

The Sismológico Nacional, on its ‘X’ account (formerly Twitter), released more information about the magnitude of the earthquakes.

Three Microseisms occur in Mexico City

The Sismológico Nacional reported that the microseisms were 3 degrees, then one of 2.8 and the last one of 2.4 degrees on the Richter scale.

The epicenter of the telluric movements was the Alvaro Obregón mayor’s office.

For his part, the head of Government, Martí Batres, specified in a message from ‘X’ that they were noticeable by the population.

The government official noted in his account: «An earthquake has been perceived in Mexico City,» he began.

According to Skyalert’s account in ‘X’, the three microseisms were perceived by the population.

However, the strongest movement happened at 11 in the morning with 07 minutes.

Authorities confirm balance

Another explanation for why the alert seismic did not sound was the fact that the epicenters were in the capital.

Minutes later after inspections in the city, they reported the white balance.

There was not human or material damage as a result of the three microseisms.

Just last week a 5.7 magnitude earthquake had occurred in Mexico City.
