A white police officer in Mississippi lost his job after telling a Hispanic man named Luis Rodriguez to «go back to Mexico.»
The officer resigned after being «relieved of duty» for using «derogatory insults,» according to Richland Police Chief Adrian Ready.
“This type of language is not only unacceptable but also undermines trust and respect,” said Ready.
Officer Jeremy Rast responded to a disturbance call at a house in Richland, a suburb of Jackson.
Incident Recorded Reveals Racist Comments by Officer Jeremy Rast

Jeremy Rast told WLBT-TV that officers exchanged words with a group of men across the street.
In a video, Rast is heard telling Rodriguez: “Why don’t you go back to Mexico or something? I don’t care. Just get out of Richland, please.”
The officer continued, telling the Hispanic man, «I don’t like you being here.»
Luis Rodriguez responded that he didn’t like the officers being on his property.
Rast replied to Rodriguez that he couldn’t legally own a house and added, “You’re illegal.”
Rodriguez replied that, although Rast didn’t like it, you can buy anything here with money.

Rast also told Rodriguez: “I’m going to look for you every shift to try to arrest you.”
Rodriguez and Rast told WLBT that they had encountered each other before.
Rodriguez said he is a native of Honduras and a graduate of Richland High School.
Due to Rast’s statements, Rodriguez is preparing to move out of Mississippi.
Rodriguez said he is concerned about being targeted by other law enforcement officers.
“Although he was fired, there could still be more officers who think like him,” Rodriguez said.
Jeremy Rast said he spoke harshly out of frustration with Rodriguez.
“I made some inappropriate and unprofessional comments, and I take full responsibility,” Rast said. “I am not proud of what I said.”
Rast also mentioned that he wants to continue his career in law enforcement.
Richland is in Rankin County, where five former sheriff’s department officers and a former Richland police officer pleaded guilty to torturing two Black men.
Those six former officers — some calling themselves the Goon Squad — were sentenced on federal charges in March and state charges in April.
