What seemed like a routine medical visit uncovered a chilling case in Iowa.
In March 2023, 27-year-old Alexandra Marie Frost took her two-year-old son to the University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
The child presented with dangerously low blood sugar levels, prompting doctors to immediately intervene with glucose.
However, tests revealed a finding that set off alarms: the insulin in his system was abnormally high.

With suspicion of something more serious, doctors considered the possibility of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a disorder in which a caregiver invents or induces illness in another person.
The hospital decided to place a security camera in the child’s room to clarify the situation, according to People en Español.

After the injection, Alexandra Marie Frost is seen walking toward the sharps container and apparently disposing of the used syringe.
The child, who had been calm, immediately began screaming in pain after the procedure.
Investigators confirmed that injecting insulin into a healthy patient can drastically lower glucose levels and cause serious complications, including death.
Once the boy was removed from his mother’s care, his health problems completely disappeared.
