Edwin Rodríguez pleads guilty to quadurple murder

The federal prosecutor’s office in New York reported that MS-13 member Edwin Rodríguez, also known as ‘Manicomio,’ pleaded guilty to murder.

According to EFE, the Salvadoran pleaded guilty to charges in relation to four murders that occurred on April 11, 2017, for which he could be sentenced to life imprisonment.

Rodríguez, who was 17 years old at the time, and was charged as a minor, was a fugitive and was arrested in 2019 in El Salvador and extradited to the United States in 2022.

He was to be tried for the murders Justin Llivicura, Michael López, Jorge Tigre and Jefferson Villalobos, according to the Eastern District of New York, in Brooklyn.

Straight to prison!

As part of his plea agreement, Rodríguez agreed to be transferred to adult status for the prosecution.

EFE reported that Rodríguez was a member of Normandie Locos Salvatrucha, an MS-13 affiliate in Central Islip, Long Island.

The violent gang has committed a large number of murders of young people.

Rodríguez, to maintain and increase his status in the gang, conspired with other MS-13 gang members and associates.

What did MS-13 member Edwin Rodríguez do?

Rodríguez participated in the murders of alleged members of rival gangs, who had disrespected MS-13 on social media.

EFE indicates that on April 11, five young people, including the four victims, were tricked into going to a wooded area of ​​a park to smoke marijuana.

There, Rodríguez and about a dozen accomplices, armed with machetes, knives and wooden sticks, attacked them.

One of the five managed to escape, but his four companions were killed and their bodies discovered the next day.

Are more arrests coming?

The prosecutor’s office highlighted that more than a dozen members of MS-13 and associated groups have been charged with these murders.

MS-13 leadership is based in El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico, but the gang has thousands of members throughout the United States.

There are numerous subgroups on Long Island. Here, MS-13 groups often meet and form alliances to ‘charge’ other people or commit criminal acts.

Since 2003, hundreds of MS-13, including dozens of its leaders, have been convicted in this federal court of murder, attempted murder and assault.
