U.S. President Donald Trump has informed his closest circle that billionaire Elon Musk, one of his strongest allies during his second term in the White House, will soon step aside, according to Politico on Wednesday.
Three anonymous sources close to the president told the outlet that Trump had shared with cabinet members and aides that the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla would retreat from the spotlight “in the coming weeks.”
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed the Politico and ABC News reports as non-news: “This ‘scoop’ is garbage.”
“Musk and President Trump have publicly stated that Elon will leave public service as a special government employee once he completes his incredible work at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE),” Leavitt wrote on X.

Despite the expected departure, the Republican president is reportedly “satisfied” with Musk’s performance as head of DOGE.
Musk has been tasked with overseeing Trump’s chaotic campaign to slash the federal government, according to the article.

None of the sources suggested this signals the end of the relationship between Trump and the world’s richest man.
One insider said Musk will remain an informal adviser and appear occasionally at presidential events.
Another stated that “anyone who thinks Musk is disappearing from Trump’s orbit is fooling themselves.”
Elon Musk’s role has been one of the most controversial aspects of the administration in its first two months.
After last November’s presidential election, the tech mogul’s position in the government has increasingly become a liability for the White House.
This issue became more pronounced following the results of the Wisconsin Supreme Court election held yesterday.
In the first major vote since Donald Trump’s return to power, the conservative candidate Brad Schimel was defeated.
He had been backed by Trump and Musk.
Musk reportedly contributed around $20 million via America PAC, a political action committee he co-founded with other tech billionaires to support Trump’s campaign.
Most of that support was directed toward Schimel—an investment of time and money that has now gone down the drain.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s sweeping government cuts have triggered the layoffs of thousands of federal workers and the closure of several historic U.S. agencies.
These cuts have sparked widespread protests in districts represented by many affected Republican lawmakers.
Additionally, a wave of attacks has been reported against Tesla vehicles and dealerships across the country.
Further details on Musk’s exit are expected to emerge soon, EFE reported.
