Inslee emphasized that this activation of the Washington National Guard is a preventive response to potential civil unrest or any other illegal activity that may arise.
The National Guard will play a crucial role in protecting electoral infrastructure, a key element to ensure the process is fair, safe, and uninterrupted.
National Guard members are also expected to be prepared to respond to any situations that may threaten public safety.
In his letter to Major General Welsh, Inslee highlighted the importance of statewide coordination to address potential incidents.
He also ordered the activation of additional support functions within Washington’s Emergency Management System.
The letter specifies that this activation, authorized under state law RCW 38.08.040, is essential to maintain the health, safety, and welfare of Washington’s residents and institutions.
The temporary National Guard deployment is planned to last four days.
Finally, Inslee stressed that this action is intended to provide necessary support to local law enforcement and the Washington State Patrol.
According to the letter, this support will enable state agencies to respond in a timely and effective manner to any incidents.
