Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Tuesday that he has nominated U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

At a dinner at the White House, Netanyahu personally handed Trump the nomination letter while they discussed the U.S. proposal for a 60-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The prime minister praised Trump’s efforts to promote peace “in many countries, but especially in the Middle East.”

“It’s well deserved, and you should receive it,” Netanyahu said regarding the Nobel, clearly endorsing Trump’s role in the region.

The announcement surprised Trump, who thanked Netanyahu for the gesture, saying: “Coming from you, it means a lot.”

Trump’s candidacy for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize had already been submitted on two previous occasions, reflecting the interest of various international actors in recognizing his efforts.

First, the Pakistani government nominated him on June 21 for the truce he facilitated between India and Pakistan.

Subsequently, U.S. Congressman Buddy Carter sent a nomination letter to Oslo on Tuesday, June 24, adding formal support from Congress.

According to the statutes of the Nobel Committee, nominations may be submitted by members of national assemblies and governments of sovereign states.

Trump, who has pledged to end the war in Ukraine, has repeatedly stated that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize as much as or even more than Barack Obama, who received it in 2009.
