Tragedy and mourning hit the entertainment world as Alexander «AJ» Jennings, a stand-in on the Netflix series Outer Banks, died after being hit by two vehicles that fled the scene on Tuesday morning, according to a statement by the Kimmie Stewart Casting company on Facebook.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office revealed that Jennings died at approximately 3:12 am from injuries sustained in the hit-and-run. The young stand-in who was getting his foot in the door of one of the largest entertainment companies in the world was only 22 years old.

AJ Jennings’ death is confirmed

On Facebook, Kimmie Stewart Casting confirmed his unexpected death. “It is with great sadness that I share that on Tuesday the mother of Alexander “AJ” Jennings informed me of his tragic death. The Outer Banks cast and crew suffered a terrible loss when AJ was hit by two cars, which fled the scene,» the post read.

Andrew Knapp, a spokesman for the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, revealed that the young man was hit by a vehicle while walking on the road. A second car also hit him and fled the scene.

“He was a beautiful and kind soul”

“AJ was a beautiful, kind soul and a shining light every day on set. He moved to Charleston from New York to work as our stunt double/photo support for John B this season,” the casting company stated after the brutal accident.

“I cannot fathom the shock and tragedy of the sudden loss of AJ and our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time. I understand this message may be difficult to process for those of you who knew and became fast friends with AJ.»

We had just been talking about how excited you were about your music, how far you had come with your ‘Ole 6 String,’ and that you wanted to keep creating art,» the actor wrote.
