A federal judge in New York dismissed corruption charges against Mayor Eric Adams on Wednesday.
The ruling provides a legal reprieve that allows Adams to focus on his bid for a second term.
The Department of Justice had requested the dismissal to facilitate the mayor’s cooperation on immigration matters.
However, Judge Dale Ho chose to dismiss the case with prejudice, meaning it cannot be reopened in the future.

Judge Ho explained that dismissing the case without prejudice might create a negative perception.
According to the judge, it would suggest that the mayor’s freedom depends on aligning with federal immigration priorities.
«The inevitable perception would be that his liberty is contingent on supporting the government’s immigration agenda,» Ho stated.
The decision was welcomed by Adams’ attorney, Alex Spiro, who called it a significant victory.
“The case against Eric Adams should never have been brought,” Spiro said in a statement.
He added that the final dismissal of the charges provides peace of mind to New Yorkers.
