No Bra Day is an annual commemoration that takes place on October 13. Initially, when it began to be celebrated in 2011, the organizers thought that July 9 would be the official date but three years later they chose to move it to October 13.

No Bra Day is presented as a worldwide effort to promote equality and freedom. On this day, some groups advocate women’s liberation, alluding to the fact that the wearing a bra can be considered oppressive and uncomfortable.

Who started it?

No Bra Day was originally known as Bra Day. It originated in Toronto, thanks to the work of a plastic surgeon named Mitchell Brown, a specialist in breast reconstruction for people who have suffered from breast cancer.

Originally, No Bra Day was meant to raise awareness among women who had suffered from breast cancer and help them overcome their fear of breast reconstruction, as well as to promote annual mammograms and cancer screening.

Why is it controversial?

Over the years, No Bra Day has generated more and more controversy and it is not endorsed by any association or organization linked to breast cancer. In fact, on social media some say this day is merely sexual.

Now that you know when No Bra Day is, you also know it isn’t primarily intended to raise funds for organizations that study or work to fight breast cancer. However, this hasn’t stopped many celebrities and social media personalities from joining these efforts.
