  • OAS criticises electoral process in Venezuela.
  • Report reveals regime manipulation.
  • They are calling for new elections.

The Organization of American States (OAS) has issued a strong statement following the elections in Venezuela.

In its statement, the OAS said it cannot recognize the 2024 presidential elections in Venezuela due to multiple irregularities and manipulations.

According to the report of the Department of Electoral Cooperation and Observation of the OAS, the process was plagued by illegalities and flaws that compromise the legitimacy of the results.

In its statement, the OAS denounced that the Nicolás Maduro regime used a repressive scheme to distort the electoral result.

«The worst form of repression, the most vile, is to prevent people from finding solutions through elections,» the OAS Secretary General said in a statement in response to the report.

Opposition leader María Corina Machado and her team have presented documents showing an alleged resounding victory for Edmundo González Urrutia with 70% of the votes.

In contrast, the Consejo Nacional Electoral (CNE) has not been able to present its own minutes, increasing suspicions of fraud.

The CNE website has been down since Monday, fueling accusations of manipulation.

The OAS also recalled that the Maduro regime has not fulfilled its commitment to carry out complete audits of the electoral processes, a promise made in 2013 to UNASUR.

This failure reinforces the distrust towards the results announced by the CNE.

Given this situation, the Secretary General of the OAS has urged Maduro to accept the minutes presented by the opposition or call new elections, in his release.

He also called for new elections to be held with international observers and a new CNE to ensure transparency.

«The Nicolás Maduro regime has once again betrayed the Venezuelan people, declaring that it respects the popular will while doing everything possible to manipulate and ignore that will,» concludes the report.

The international community is watching with concern the crisis in Venezuela, where injustice and repression continue to affect the population.

The humanitarian and migration situation in the country remains critical.

Meanwhile, the OAS regrets the lack of cumulative action by international actors, which perpetuates the errors and the current crisis.
