  • ICE confirms only one dead in attack
  • Dallas under federal investigation
  • Migrants critically injured

According to EFE, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) corrected its initial report on the Dallas shooting and confirmed that only one migrant died in the attack against its offices, while two others remain in critical condition.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a statement correcting earlier versions that had reported two dead in addition to the attacker.

The agency clarified that the final toll is one migrant dead, two migrants injured, and the attacker, who took his own life after opening fire.

The confusion stemmed from a series of contradictory early statements that fueled uncertainty during the first hours of the incident.

Identification of the Shooter and Attack Method

This episode adds to a string of communication errors during high-impact incidents, where preliminary reports often create public tension.

NBC, citing law enforcement, reported that the suspected shooter was identified as Joshua Jahn, 29, though authorities have not officially confirmed it.

According to DHS, the suspect opened fire indiscriminately from the terrace of a building near ICE offices in Dallas.

The shots struck a van holding migrants in custody, killing one and seriously injuring two others.

The attacker then took his own life at the scene, marking the violent episode’s end.

Investigations are being led by the FBI and DHS, who said the event is being treated as a case of “targeted violence.”

At the scene, cartridges were found with the inscription “ANTI-ICE” written in blue ink, interpreted as a possible political or ideological motive against the immigration agency.

FBI Director Kash Patel posted a photo of one of the cartridges on X, fueling media attention on the nature of the attack.

Political Reactions and Texas Incidents

Although authorities insist the exact motive remains unknown, several officials in President Donald Trump’s administration quickly linked the event to violence against law enforcement.

Vice President JD Vance highlighted that immigration officers have become constant targets of threats and warned that the country cannot normalize such attacks.

This incident comes amid a tense climate in Texas, where similar episodes have occurred this year.

In July, ten people were charged in a shooting outside a migrant detention center in Alvarado that left a police officer injured. The Department of Justice classified it as an “organized attack.”

Context of Violence in Texas

That same month, federal agents shot and killed a man who fired at a Border Patrol building in McAllen, sparking a crossfire that left at least one person wounded.

These episodes reflect growing tension in Texas over immigration policy and the security of federal facilities.

State authorities have warned that attacks against agencies like ICE and Border Patrol are part of a pattern of targeted violence.

Reports suggest there is a continuing risk of new attacks, especially in border cities with a strong federal immigration presence.

ICE Dallas Shooting and the National Debate

The correction on the number of victims has sparked debate between critics of ICE’s practices and those who defend its agents.

Republicans close to President Donald Trump argue that such attacks are the result of campaigns of hatred against law enforcement.

Meanwhile, opposition sectors maintain that ICE’s practices contribute to polarization and perceptions of abuse against migrant communities.

The ICE Dallas shooting may become a turning point in the national debate on security, immigration, and civil rights in the United States.
