«Accepting the pardon would be an insult to the Capitol Police officers, the rule of law, and our nation,» said Hemphill, 71, from Boise, Idaho, in a telephone interview with the newspaper.
«January 6 criminals are trying to rewrite history by claiming it was not a riot or insurrection. I do not want to be part of their attempt to rewrite what happened that day,» she added.
According to the Idaho Statesman, Hemphill was notified on Tuesday that she was among approximately 1,500 people pardoned by Trump.

In a recent interview, Pamela Hemphill reflected on her participation in the events.
She felt as if she had been part of «a cult» that led her to believe in the election fraud theories promoted by Trump in 2020.
For her, the narrative that justified the assault was a lie that blinded many.
Today, Hemphill focuses on the human consequences of the attack.
«It’s as if the country had let them down. They were the heroes that day,» she said, referring to the police officers who were injured while trying to contain the crowd.
Her statement shows deep remorse for her role in the assault and a new perspective on the events of that day.
Pamela Hemphill’s rejection of the pardon reflects a distancing from the movement she initially supported, according to Efe.
Her words and actions have generated national interest, highlighting the divisions that persist after the events of January 6.
