Historic rainfall hit much of the Milwaukee metropolitan area between the night of August 9 and the early hours of August 10.
The downpour, part of a larger system affecting the central United States, triggered flash floods that brought the region to a standstill.
Authorities confirmed the cancellation of concerts and the closure of the Wisconsin State Fair for safety reasons, according to USA Today.

The National Weather Service warned that additional rounds of heavy rain could hit areas from the Central Plains to the Midwest.
