- Another blow to reproductive rights in the U.S.
On Thursday, June 26, the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of allowing states to withdraw Medicaid funding from Planned Parenthood.
This is the country’s largest reproductive health services network.
The decision represents a new setback for reproductive rights, as it restricts access to basic medical care for low-income individuals.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court has ruled in a 6-3 decision in the Medina v. Planned Parenthood case that state Medicaid programs can DEFUND Planned Parenthood.
Huge breakthrough for the cause of life. Planned Parenthood should absolutely NOT receive a dime of taxpayer money.

The ruling was passed by a 6-3 conservative majority. The Court’s liberal justices dissented, arguing that Medicaid should ensure recipients’ right to seek care from any provider who accepts the program.
However, the majority upheld the authority of state governments to exclude Planned Parenthood from their Medicaid networks.
The decision stemmed from a lawsuit challenging the South Carolina government, which had blocked Medicaid funds from going to Planned Parenthood.
Although the state bans abortion after six weeks of pregnancy, it also seeks to restrict access to other services not directly related to abortion.
Planned Parenthood Responds: “A Grave Injustice”
?This is a landmark victory for life and a major step toward ending taxpayer-funded abortions.
Florida should lead the way. State leaders should immediately end all taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood in our state.

Paige Johnson, president of Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, called the ruling “a grave injustice that strikes at the foundations of American freedom,” warning that South Carolina now faces a “health care crisis.”
She stated that the network will continue to operate, offering low-cost or free services even to Medicaid enrollees.
Johnson emphasized that only 5% of Medicaid recipients requested reproductive health services this year.
And that federal funds are not used to pay for abortions, but for preventive care such as contraceptives and medical tests.
Abortion Rights: More Restricted Than Ever
Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, abortion rights have been handed over to the states.
Currently, 23 of the 50 U.S. states have banned or severely restricted the procedure—even in cases of rape or incest, according to the Center for Reproductive Rights.
This new ruling strengthens the trend of limiting access to reproductive health care, not just for those seeking abortions, but also for millions who rely on the public system for basic health services.
