Ricky Martin’s lawyer speaks out after new sexual assault allegation

José Andreu Fuentes, one of Ricky Martin’s lawyers, said on Sunday that the accusations supposedly made by the artist’s nephew accusing him of alleged sexual assault, «are part of a pattern of harassment.»

«These accusations are part of a pattern of harassment against the singer and are made in reaction to the artist’s demand that his name be cleared in the face of the false allegations against him,» Andreu Fuentes said in a press release cited by EFE.

Ricky Martin’s lawyer comes out to defend him

Andreu Fuentes’ statements come two days after Dennis Yadiel Sánchez, Ricky Martin’s nephew, allegedly filed a complaint with the Police at a San Juan barracks for alleged sexual assault, after the artist sued him for extortion.

«These claims are wildly offensive and completely untethered from reality,» emphasized Andreu Fuentes about the complaint made by Sánchez against the 50-year-old artist. «When this man previously made similar allegations, his legal case had to be withdrawn,» he added.

Why was Martin cleared of the first accusations?

«Not least because he himself admitted under oath that Ricky Martin had never assaulted him in any way,» he continued. Andreu Fuentes also indicated that after Martin filed the lawsuit against his nephew, he «is trying to spread his lies again.»

«This individual has a clear agenda that is the product of a diseased mind that clearly needs help,» the attorney said in the statement. The spokesman for the Puerto Rico Police, Axel Valencia, confirmed this Saturday to EFE that a complaint was filed against Enrique Martin Morales, the singer’s first name.

Who is accusing the singer?

«There is a complaint that was filed yesterday afternoon at the Río Piedras barracks by a victim who is an adult,» Valencia explained. The spokesman added that those are “very sensitive investigations” and that due to the victim protection protocols “the identity” of the victims is protected.

The Police cannot reveal the name of the complainant although, according to the local outlet Primera Hora, it is his nephew again. He had previously obtained an ex parte order of protection for domestic violence against his uncle last July, according to EFE.

What is Ricky Martin accused of?

The Court of First Instance of San Juan filed that case on July 21 after Sánchez asked to annul the requested protection order and it seemed that everything was settled. However, the singer filed a lawsuit last Wednesday against his nephew for extortion and damages, requesting compensation of not less than $30 million.

The accusations caused Martin to lose million-dollar contracts as well as present and future artistic projects. Sánchez, 21, alleged at the time that he had a romantic relationship with Ricky Martin for seven months and that, after the breakup, his uncle intimidated him and approached his home on several occasions, EFE said.
