The Dominican baseball community is mourning the loss of Roberto Ezequiel Gómez Castillo, known as «El Malaguetón.»
The former pitcher for the Águilas Cibaeñas and the San Francisco Giants tragically lost his life in a traffic accident early Sunday morning.
The accident occurred on the Joaquín Balaguer Highway in Santiago, Dominican Republic.
According to authorities, the vehicle carrying Gómez Castillo was violently struck from behind.

The collision was caused by a truck driven by 26-year-old Wandy Joel de los Santos Pérez, according to RCC Media.
De los Santos Pérez is currently in police custody as investigations progress to determine the details of this unfortunate incident.

At present, no further details have been provided about the cause of the collision or the condition of the involved driver.
Two passengers accompanying Roberto Gómez Castillo were also injured in the accident.
Both victims were rushed to a medical facility by the 9-1-1 Emergency System.
Their exact medical condition is still unknown, but they are under observation.
Roberto Gómez Castillo was celebrated for his outstanding career in the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM).
His talent and dedication as a pitcher made him a prominent figure in baseball, both locally and internationally.
His untimely death has caused shock among teammates, fans, and the broader sports community in the Dominican Republic.
The Águilas Cibaeñas, a team where Gómez Castillo left a significant mark, expressed their condolences and extended support to his family.
“We share in the sorrow that weighs on his family. May he rest in peace,” they wrote on X.
At just 35 years old, «El Malaguetón» leaves a void in Dominican sports and a legacy that will be remembered for his passion and commitment to baseball.
