Ryan Routh, accused of attempting to assassinate former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump in Florida, has sent a letter from prison to a Florida newspaper.

In it, he discusses the role of voters in Palm Beach County and the consequences of this Tuesday’s presidential elections.

The Palm Beach Post reported that it received the unsolicited letter but did not detail its contents.

It only noted that the letter discusses how the southeast Florida county, where Trump resides, will vote and what the implications of the voting will be.

The newspaper detailed that the 58-year-old defendant does not provide specifics about the alleged assassination attempt for which he could be sentenced to life imprisonment.

Two weeks ago, prosecutors filed a motion outlining Routh’s desire to write to various media outlets.

And they warned that he might attempt to communicate with the media in some way.

They feared he would make calls for violence against Trump or try to undermine the trial he faces, leading them to request the court to limit his access to case materials.

What did Ryan Routh say in his letter?

However, Routh’s defense argued against the measure, claiming it would violate his rights to free speech and a fair trial.

While prosecutors and the defense debated the inmate’s ability to publish his political views, Routh did just that, sending the letter to The Palm Beach Post.

Federal prison officials refused to authenticate the letter.

But they confirmed that the sender’s address is assigned to Routh, who is incarcerated in a detention center in Miami.

Evidence Against Routh!

The suspect, who was arrested after attempting to assassinate Trump on September 15 at a Florida golf course, later detailed his plans in a handwritten letter.

In it, he also admitted he wanted to commit the crime and regretted having failed.

Routh was located by a Secret Service agent, who discovered him armed with a semi-automatic rifle hidden behind some bushes.

This occurred near the Trump-owned golf course at a time when the former president was there.

When is the trial against him?

He was arrested on the day of the incident and has also been charged with possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, in relation to the assassination attempt.

If found guilty at his trial, scheduled for November 18, Routh could face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

Federal Magistrate Aileen Cannon, who presides over the criminal case, rejected last October a motion from the defense to step aside from the case.

Cannon dismissed the recusal request from Routh’s defense, which claimed she has some «relationship» with Trump, who appointed her to the bench in 2020.
