According to EFE news agency, the trial against rapper and producer Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs reached a decisive moment this Tuesday when the jury informed Judge Arun Subramanian that it had reached a partial verdict on four of the five charges faced by the artist.

After more than thirteen hours of deliberation, the twelve jurors sent a note to the judge confirming that they had reached a unanimous agreement regarding charges two, three, four, and five, all related to crimes of sex trafficking and transportation for the purpose of prostitution.

These charges primarily involve two victims identified in the trial: singer Cassie Ventura, Combs’ ex-girlfriend, and another woman who testified under the pseudonym Jane to protect her identity.

Despite the announcement, the content of the partial verdict—guilt or innocence—was not immediately disclosed, and Judge Subramanian decided to keep it sealed while deliberations continue.

The reason is that the jury has not reached a consensus on the most serious charge: conspiracy to commit organized crime, which will be the only issue on the agenda for Wednesday.

This accusation is the most severe in the case and carries a potential sentence of life in prison, intensifying tension both inside and outside the courtroom.

There were visibly tense moments in the courtroom following the reading of the jury’s note: defense attorneys approached Combs to confer in hushed tones, gesturing intensely while the rapper, visibly agitated, avoided eye contact with the press.

Combs, dressed conservatively and looking worried, then approached his six children, who were present along with their mother and his sister, to speak to them in a restrained yet tense tone.

Judge Subramanian reconvened the jury in the courtroom to remind them that the law requires unanimity in the verdict but also that none of them should surrender their honest convictions simply due to group pressure.

He firmly explained that deliberation is a collective process based on the analysis of evidence and that no member should abandon their principles merely to force a result.

The jury panel had expressed in the note delivered to the judge that discussions regarding charge one were marked by “non-persuadable opinions on both sides,” suggesting a serious deadlock that could lead to a legal finding of a hung jury if they fail to resolve their differences.

Combs’ defense, led by attorney Agnifilo, requested that the judge formally instruct the jury to continue deliberating and rejected the idea of receiving the partial verdict at this time.

Expectation Over Verdict in Diddy Trial

According to their argument, deliberations could still overcome the apparent impasse with more time for discussion, and there was no legal reason to accept an incomplete verdict.

Meanwhile, prosecutor Maurene Comey agreed to extend the process, noting that thirteen hours of debate was not unusual given the complexity of the case and that there was still ample opportunity to try to reach unanimity.

Judge Subramanian, aware of the court’s logistical constraints, announced that the court would be closed on Thursday but consulted both parties on whether they would agree to continue deliberations on Friday if necessary.

Throughout the session, Diddy appeared deeply unsettled, drumming his fingers on his knee and avoiding any displays of confidence while listening intently to the lawyers’ statements.
