The senator’s death was communicated via an email sent to his fellow senators, to which the AP agency gained access.
Local and federal authorities have launched an exhaustive investigation to determine the causes of the plane crash.
How did the accident happen?

Through social media, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the investigation of an aerial incident that left no survivors.
«Rescue efforts have been completed. Four occupants, unfortunately, did not survive the accident,» the authorities confirmed.
«The plane crashed Sunday night shortly after takeoff from Canyonlands Airfield, about 15 miles (24 kilometers) away,» they noted.
While details about what may have caused the accident have not yet been released, the investigation is expected to reveal crucial information.
Why were they in Utah?

The Senator, his wife, and children reside in North Carolina, and the reason for the trip to Utah was announced through an email.

Additionally, it was noted that Larsen was visiting his relatives in the town of Scottsdale and decided to take a moment to rest.
«They were visiting family in Scottsdale and returning home. They stopped to rest in Utah,» highlighted the Senate leader, cited by AP.
They reveal condolences

Across the United States, people of all political affiliations and from different walks of life have expressed their condolences.
«I’m not sure where grieving begins in the face of such a tragedy,» were Hogue’s words regarding the loss of the senator and his family.
«But I think it begins with prayers for the grandparents, Sen. Larsen’s surviving stepson, and Doug and Amy’s extended family,» Hogue wrote, as noted by AP.
«Keep your family close today,» the news release ended, citing The Associated Press. For now, the investigation continues.
How is the investigation going?

The crash of the single-engine Piper plane was under investigation, the National Transportation Safety Board said in a post and cited AP.
