Severe storms—including large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes—will continue to batter the heart of the United States through the final days of April, according to AccuWeather meteorologists.

The threat is expected to peak Monday afternoon and evening in the Upper Midwest, with a “high risk” of extreme conditions.

Experts warn of an outbreak of large and destructive tornadoes in the region.

Severe weather has been a persistent threat in the western High Plains since last Thursday, with daily reports of giant hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes.

This pattern will continue into the weekend, affecting an area stretching from the Mexican border all the way to Canada.

As a storm system moves into the Midwest, severe weather is expected to intensify, especially on Monday afternoon and evening.

AccuWeather meteorologists say Monday could be one of the most active severe weather days of the season.

“Powerful thunderstorms will be intensified by a fast-moving jet stream,” explained AccuWeather meteorologist Alexander Duffus.

“This will support the potential for some intense tornadoes in the region.”

Although a major tornado outbreak is expected Monday, the risk will not end that day.

The threat will shift eastward and southward, impacting millions more on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the storm risk will extend into the Ohio Valley and the interior Northeast, with cities like Buffalo, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, and Pittsburgh in the path of impact.

However, storms in these areas will only last a single day.

Western and northern Texas, as well as Oklahoma, will also be affected, especially on Tuesday night.

While the tornado risk will be lower compared to Monday, the storms will remain dangerous, with potential for hail, flash flooding, and strong wind gusts.

This ongoing severe weather serves as a reminder of the risks associated with storm season in the United States, which is expected to continue causing disruption through the end of April.
