One month after journalist Mario Guevara’s arrest, his son Óscar published a heartfelt message on the MG News Facebook page.

In his message, he described the difficult time they’re enduring, unable to see or hug his father, and warned of the tough legal battle against the federal government.
This was reported by MG NEWS.
Son of Mario Guevara Sends Emotional Message One Month After Arrest
“Today marks four weeks since my dad’s arrest; already a month without being able to see or hug him. We miss him so much. His absence has been incredibly painful, and we know the battle is very hard because we’re up against the most powerful government in the world, which wants to deport him from the country. But we’re determined not to give up and we keep hoping for a miracle.”
This is what Óscar Guevara wrote.
The journalist’s son stressed that MG News’ legal team is working tirelessly to secure his release, though he acknowledged the complexity of the process:
“Our MG News legal team is working hard every day to get him out, but the task is very difficult. We’re grateful to our entire community who wants to help us keep fighting. Here’s the link to our official GoFundMe page. Thank you so much in advance.”
The GoFundMe Campaign: Helping Mario Guevara’s Family

On the family’s official GoFundMe page, Óscar Guevara provided more details about his father’s situation.
He recalled that Mario Guevara was arrested on June 14, 2025, while covering the “No Kings” protest in Georgia, and that he’s since been transferred between several detention centers, including twice to the ICE Processing Center in Folkston.
“Hi everyone, my name is Óscar Guevara, son of Mario Guevara, a journalist with over 25 years of experience. He was arrested on June 14, 2025, while covering the ‘No Kings’ protest in Georgia, simply for doing his job,” the description reads.
He also denounced ICE’s ongoing refusal to release his father despite a court ruling: “An immigration judge granted him bond and confirmed that he poses no danger to the community, but ICE still refuses to release him.”
Community Support and Urgent Need for Funds
Óscar explained the severe impact his father’s detention has had on the family, noting that Mario Guevara is their main financial provider.
The prolonged detention has been devastating both emotionally and financially for the family.
“This situation has been very hard for our family. My dad is our main provider, and his prolonged detention is affecting us so much emotionally,” he wrote.
He also appealed to the solidarity of the Hispanic community, whom Mario Guevara has long served as a journalist.
“He has always stood up for the Hispanic community, reporting on ICE operations, livestreaming important events, and covering the news.
Today, I ask that same community he has always supported to now support him. Your help will allow us to cover expenses and keep our family afloat during this very difficult time. Thank you for any support you can give.”
