  • Genny de Bernardo shares with you the legend of the Southern Lapwing.
  • More than one story tells of how luxury, when not properly managed, leads to misery.
  • This story revolves around two young people who did not know how to manage their inheritance.

Sometimes, children do not pay close attention to the work their parents do to give them everything they need. When this is not addressed, it can have consequences.

Unfortunately, the unrestraint of material things causes them to only think about receiving, but they do not realize that one must also work to achieve.

Today’s story has something to do with this theme. If a person does not know what it is to earn things, they might not appreciate their value.

If a person learns to work and thus understand the value of it, perhaps when they have a more comfortable way of life, they can maintain it. Now, we tell you the legend of the tero.

Once there was a father, who had accumulated a great fortune thanks to his work in the field and some fortunate business ventures.

This man was older and, unfortunately, fell gravely ill and died, leaving his immense wealth to his two children.

After the mourning period, the young people took over the management of their inheritance and began to enjoy a luxurious lifestyle. Friends from all over came to socialize with them, and their expenses constantly increased.

Unfortunately, to maintain their costly lifestyle, they were forced to gradually sell their inherited possessions.

From Riches to Poverty

Over time, this included the valuable objects in their home, until they finally had to sell their father’s property in its entirety.

They went from wealth and comfort to experiencing the harsh reality of poverty. They were left homeless, and those they called friends quickly disappeared.

In their desperation to find a solution to their misery, the young people took refuge in the countryside and cried themselves to sleep.

When they woke up, they discovered that they had been transformed into birds, specifically teros, and could no longer communicate with each other except by making strange sounds.

The Consequences of Their Actions

Despite their new form, they still carried with them some elements of their former opulence, such as ties and shirt fronts.

Additionally, a sign of their repentance manifested as a red circle around their eyes, a result of their anguished crying due to their reckless behavior.

God punished these young people in this way for their lack of judgment, who learned a lesson about the importance of humility and responsibility.
