Judge freezes Piqué’s company’s bank account amid corruption probe

A Spanish Judge ordered the bank account of a company owned by Gerard Piqué be frozen.

This is part of a probe into irregularities regarding the Spanish Super Cup and Saudi Arabia.

A Spanish court confirmed the local media reports, according to The Associated Press.

Piqué’s company’s bank account is frozen

The judge presiding over the case, Delia Rodrigo, accepted prosecutors’ request to freeze Kosmos’ bank account.

Gerard Piqué, whom many know as Shakira’s ex, created the sports entertainment company.

Kosmos indicated that it will appeal the judge’s decision.

It also highlighted that both the company and the former soccer player have not been identified by the court as being under investigation.

There were several arrests in the Spanish Super Cup probe

Spanish police arrested the former president of the Spanish soccer federation, Luis Rubiales, earlier this month.

This was part of the investigation into possible corruption and money laundering under his mandate.

Another seven people were arrested in March when police raided the federation’s headquarters in Madrid and a residence belonging to Rubiales in Granada.

Rubiales brought the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia in 2020, with an agreement worth $42 million per tournament.

Piqué’s reputation is tainted by Spanish Super Cup probe

Piqué, who at that time played for Barcelona and played in a Spanish Super Cup, was part of the agreement negotiations through Kosmos.

Prosecutors began investigating the deal in 2022 after conversations between Rubiales and Piqué about millions of dollars in commissions were leaked.

Kosmos also participated in the relaunch of the tennis Davis cup and created the King’s League, an alternative soccer competition in Spain.

Rubiales resigned in September after being involved in an international scandal for kissing player Jenni Hermoso on the lips without her consent.
