The death of a 37-year-old man at the hands of federal agents in Minneapolis sparked a wave of political and community reactions, especially after Stephen Miller, a close adviser to Donald Trump, labeled him a “domestic terrorist” without providing evidence.

The comment was published just hours after the shooting, despite the investigation being in its early stages and the circumstances of the operation still unclear.

The statement further escalated tensions in a state already facing constant protests against the deployment of federal agents.

Local leaders reported that this is the third similar case recorded in Minneapolis so far this month.

Miller’s remarks were issued in response to Senator Amy Klobuchar, who demanded the removal of ICE from Minnesota after watching video footage of the operation.

The lawmaker described the incident as “a horrific video of a killing” and accused the Trump administration of intensifying the presence of federal agents in the region.

In his reply, the adviser claimed that Klobuchar and other Democrats “have been fanning the flames of insurrection.”

He further stated: “A would-be assassin tried to murder a federal law enforcement officer, and the official Democratic narrative sides with the terrorists.”

DHS Justifies the Federal Shooting in Minneapolis and Claims Self-Defense

The Department of Homeland Security stated that the man was armed and advanced toward U.S. Border Patrol agents during a targeted operation.

The agency said the suspect “violently resisted” when agents attempted to disarm him.

According to the statement, “an agent fired defensive shots” to stop him.

DHS added that the individual “had two magazines and no identification,” which, in its view, suggested an intent to “cause maximum harm.”

Local Authorities Denounce “Impunity” and Demand State Oversight

The federal account contrasts with the position of local authorities such as Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who said there are videos showing masked agents “beating one of our constituents and shooting him to death.”

Frey denounced what he described as troubling “impunity” in federal operations conducted in Minneapolis without state oversight.

Governor Tim Walz also intervened, directly calling on President Trump to remove ICE from the state.

Walz further demanded that Minnesota lead the investigation into the shooting.

Protests Grow After a Series of Violent Operations

This case adds to other federal violence incidents, including the killing of Renee Good, which have intensified tensions in the Twin Cities.

Protests have continued to grow as immigrant groups and civil organizations denounce abuses, lack of transparency, and what they describe as the militarization of the area.

Minneapolis is experiencing ongoing demonstrations calling for justice for victims of excessive use of force.

The most recent case could become a new breaking point in the national debate over security, migration, and federal authority, according to CNN.
