Simply Red member dies at 60

Simply Red, the British band formed in 1985, is renowned for its unique blend of soul, pop, funk, and jazz.

They were led by singer Mick Hucknall, the band’s main songwriter and central figure.

The group rose to international fame during the 1980s and 1990s with several hit albums.

Sadly, Steve Lewinson, the band’s bassist, has passed away at the age of 60.

Mick Hucknall confirmed the heartbreaking news of Steve Lewinson’s passing on Simply Red’s social media accounts.

“Steve was a fine man. A loving, caring, and considerate man. A consummate professional, and a joy to work with,” Hucknall shared.

The singer expressed that he and his bandmates are «absolutely devastated by his loss» but feel proud and grateful to have known him.

“A fine man indeed,” Hucknall concluded.

As reported by Rock & Pop, Steve Lewinson was part of Simply Red from 1995 to 1998.

He rejoined the band in 2003 and stayed until 2010, then returned once again in 2015 and remained until his death.

Lewinson first contributed to the album Blue in 1998 and participated in all subsequent releases from Home (2003) to Time (2023).

His exceptional talent extended beyond Simply Red; Lewinson also collaborated with iconic artists like Annie Lennox, Kylie Minogue, Amy Winehouse, George Michael, Sade, Massive Attack, and Herbie Hancock.

As of this writing, the cause of Steve Lewinson’s death has not been disclosed.

During one of Simply Red’s recent concerts in Austria, bassist Orefo Orakwue performed.

It is expected that he will continue in Lewinson’s role moving forward.

Fans and followers have flooded social media with heartfelt tributes, mourning the loss of this remarkable musician.
