What began as an apparently common gastrointestinal infection ended in a tragedy that now leaves a Hispanic family in mourning.

Despite multiple medical attempts to save her life, her body could not withstand the complications.

The events occurred in mid-January 2026.

According to testimony from her relatives, Yasmin became seriously ill on Sunday, January 11, when she began experiencing intense symptoms of a stomach infection.

As her condition deteriorated, her husband rushed her to the emergency room, where doctors confirmed that her situation was critical.

The Diagnosis That Changed Everything

Once hospitalized, doctors determined that her body was fighting a severe infection that had already compromised her kidney function.

The family was informed that Yasmin was in critical condition with kidney failure, a life-threatening condition that can escalate rapidly.

During her stay in the hospital, her heart stopped multiple times.

According to her family, she was resuscitated three times, miraculously regaining a pulse each time before suffering a fourth cardiac arrest that proved fatal.

Following the unexpected loss, Yasmin’s family created a GoFundMe campaign to request financial support, primarily to cover medical and funeral expenses and to help support her five-year-old daughter, who is now facing life without her mother.

The campaign was written by her sister Jocelyn, who explained the beginning of the tragedy in her own words:

“Hello everyone! I’m Jocelyn, Yasmin’s sister. You may not know this, but Yasmin became seriously ill on Sunday, January 11 with a gastrointestinal virus that was going around — a terrible stomach infection!”

In the description, the family explains how the infection quickly worsened after her arrival at the hospital:

“As her body continued fighting the infection, after her husband took her to the emergency room, we discovered that she was in critical condition with kidney failure.”

Yasmin’s strength during the medical emergency is one of the aspects her family highlights most, especially due to the repeated resuscitation attempts:

“Yasmin fought with all her strength, she lost her pulse three times, and it was a miracle that she regained it! She was incredibly strong!”

The family also acknowledged the efforts of the medical staff who treated her:

“The doctors, emergency air transport paramedics, and nurses did everything they could for Yasmin.”

After losing her pulse for the fourth time, she was no longer able to continue fighting and passed away on January 13, 2026.

The dedication concludes by remembering who Yasmin was and the central reason for asking for help:

“Yasmin was a daughter, sister, friend, and mother, and she always wore a beautiful smile wherever she went!

Your thoughts, prayers, and any donation would be greatly appreciated during this difficult time for all of us, especially for her five-year-old daughter!”

What Is Kidney Failure?

Kidney failure is a condition in which the kidneys stop functioning properly and can no longer remove waste and excess fluids from the body.

It can appear suddenly when the body faces severe infections, extreme dehydration, or an intense inflammatory response.

When it occurs acutely, as in this case, deterioration can be rapid and requires immediate medical attention to avoid fatal consequences.

Symptoms and What to Do in an Emergency

Some of the most common symptoms of kidney failure include:

  • Decreased or absent urine output
  • Swelling in the legs, feet, or face
  • Persistent nausea and vomiting
  • Extreme fatigue and weakness
  • Confusion or difficulty concentrating

What to do:

If a person with an infection experiences sudden worsening symptoms, constant vomiting, dehydration, or changes in urination, it is critical to seek immediate medical care.

Early treatment can be key to preventing irreversible damage.

Yasmin’s case has generated shock and reflection on how an apparently common infection can lead to fatal consequences when the body becomes overwhelmed.

Her story highlights not only the fragility of health in the face of sudden complications, but also the importance of urgently addressing any worsening symptoms.
