“There’s a chance a storm could arrive on New Year’s Eve or on January 1st, which could bring a combination of rain and snow to the northeastern part of the country, while further south, only rain is expected,” Pastelok said.

In the Midwest United States, cities like Chicago and Detroit should stay alert, as a slowing of the storms could extend the rain past midnight.

On the other hand, the weather in the southern part of the country, along the Gulf Coast and southeastern areas, will remain more stable, with mild temperatures and clear skies.

Seattle and Portland Won’t Escape the Rain

In contrast, Seattle and Portland on the West Coast are unlikely to escape the rainy weather that has been persistent throughout December.
