Get ready for the Detroit Grand Prix! These streets will be closed

• The Detroit Grand Prix runs from May 31 to June 2.

The Detroit Grand Prix will take place from Friday, May 31, to Sunday, June 2.

Starting on Tuesday, May 28, some streets will begin to close for this traditional event that takes place after the Indianapolis 500.

However, access to Downtown will still be possible through alternative options such as the Detroit People Mover, SMART and DDOT buses, Transit Windsor and QLINE.

Street closures for the Detroit Grand Prix

According to WXYZ, the city published the schedule of closures for the event, from May 28 to June 5.

These include: Atwater from Riopelle to Hart Plaza; Bates from Jefferson to Atwater; EB Jefferson from M-10 to Rivard and WB Jefferson from Rivard to Washington Blvd.

Also, Woodward from State to Jefferson; Cadillac Plaza west of Bates and Campus Martius.

From May 29 to June 3 West Renaissance Drive, Franklin between Rivard and St. Antoine; Rivard between Jefferson and Atwater,and Antoine between Jefferson and Atwater will be closed.

Detroit Formula One Grand Prix: A race rich in tradition

According to WXYZ, the remaining streets are expected to reopen by Friday, June 7.

Moreover, Larned Street and Congress are expected to remain open. A parking and transportation guide is available.

The origins of this event trace back to the Detroit Formula One Grand Prix on the city’s street circuit.

Since 2023, the race has returned to the streets of Downtown around the Renaissance Center using a circuit partially based on Detroit’s original street circuit.
