- Supreme Court backs Trump and freezes education funds.
- As reported by EFE.
- Here are the details.
The United States Supreme Court ruled on Friday in favor of the Trump Administration.
The decision allows the government to freeze $65 million in grants from the Department of Education, previously allocated to teacher training and professional development programs focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The ruling was made by a narrow 5-4 vote.
It represents a significant judicial endorsement of Trump’s education policy, which questions the effectiveness and direction of these initiatives.

The frozen funds were intended, according to The New York Times, to support teacher training in rural and low-income communities.
The goal was to foster a diverse teaching workforce that better reflected the communities it serves.
In February, the Department of Education notified recipients that the targeted programs did not serve the “best interests” of the country.
Citing their prioritization of diversity criteria over merit and academic excellence.

Eight states, including California and New York, filed a complaint against the cuts, arguing that freezing the funds would severely harm the most vulnerable school districts, forcing them to rely on long-term substitute teachers and compromising education quality.
A federal judge had issued a temporary 14-day restraining order to prevent the freeze, but the Supreme Court granted the Trump administration’s request to block that order.
The high court stated that the states had the option to maintain their education programs using their own resources while the case is resolved.
And that any harm resulting from the cancellation would be the states’ responsibility.

The Administration argued that allowing a single federal judge to impose their criteria nationwide would undermine the country’s democratic and administrative process.
Pam Bondi, Attorney General and close ally of the former president, called the ruling a «significant victory» for both the White House and the rule of law.
“Local district judges do not have the authority to control public funds or unilaterally block Trump’s political agenda,” she stated.
The Supreme Court’s decision marks a new chapter in the growing debate over the role of diversity programs in public policy and the allocation of federal funds. The case will continue in lower courts, but for now, the $65 million freeze remains in place.
