According to Kancha, a woman in Florida won a multi-million-dollar lawsuit against Target after suffering a severe fall in one of the retail chain’s parking lots.

The jury determined that the company and the shopping center administrators were responsible for negligence, granting the plaintiff $11.3 million in compensation.

The case, which began in 2021, drew national attention due to the size of the verdict and the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The woman, identified as Olga Mun, claimed that the poor condition of the sidewalk was the main cause of her permanent injuries.

The accident occurred in December 2019 at a Target store located in the Winter Garden Village shopping center in Florida.

Mun, 44, was walking with her daughter through the parking lot during the busy holiday season, trying to avoid vehicle traffic.

While crossing between parked cars, she did not notice the uneven surface between the asphalt road and a concrete drainage channel, causing her to trip and fall violently to the ground.

The fall resulted in a fracture to her left ankle and multiple injuries to her right leg, including fractures to the tibia and fibula.

After the accident, Mun was taken to a local hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery.

Doctors inserted metal rods and screws in her right leg to stabilize the fractures.

According to her attorneys, the woman continues to live with chronic pain and reduced mobility, which limits her daily activities.

“Our client suffered a devastating and permanent injury due to the defendants’ negligence,” said her legal representatives, Matt Morgan and Fan Li.

In 2021, Mun filed a negligence lawsuit against Target Corporation and Site Centers Corp, the company that owns the shopping complex.

The legal document stated that both companies failed to maintain the parking lot in safe conditions and did not warn customers about the risks caused by the uneven pavement.

Defense attorneys for the companies argued that the hazard was visible and that Mun “chose to take the risk” by walking through that area.

They also claimed there was no legal obligation to warn customers about irregularities that were “obvious to the naked eye.”

Jury Holds Target Liable for Negligence

During the trial, Target’s representatives offered the plaintiff an out-of-court settlement of $250,000, which Mun rejected, considering it insufficient.

The case went to trial in 2024, and after hearing medical testimonies, expert reports, and viewing images of the accident site, the jury assigned 90% of the responsibility to the property owners.

The ruling orders the payment of $11.3 million as compensation for medical expenses, lost income, and emotional damages.

“This verdict reveals the full extent of the harm and human loss suffered by our client,” stated the attorneys after the resolution.

The Impact of the Target Negligence Lawsuit

The amount awarded to Olga Mun is considered one of the highest civil verdicts in Florida in 2025 for a personal injury case.

Legal experts suggest the ruling could influence future lawsuits against large retailers for similar incidents.

The verdict sends a clear message about the responsibility of companies to maintain their facilities and protect their customers.

Although Target has not yet issued an official comment, sources close to the company indicated they are evaluating whether to appeal the decision.
