Texas ban on transgender athletes competing in college sports was signed in June of this year.

Republican lawmakers argue that the measure will have a positive impact on women competing in college sports.

According to Republicans, the measure will help «save women’s sports» in the state of Texas.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott stated that «women’s sports are under threat,» according to EFE.

«Some women are being forced to compete against biological men,» Texas Governor Greg Abbott declared when signing the ban on transgender athletes in college sports.

The law took effect on September 1 throughout the state of Texas, according to EFE.

The bill, known as the ‘Save Women’s Sports Act’, allows individuals to sue local institutions who allow trans athletes to compete in women’s sports.

This means any school that allows athletes to compete on teams that do not align with their gender assigned at birth are at risk of being sued.

Texas passed a similar ban on transgender athletes in 2021

Texas already passed a similar law in 2021 aimed at the state’s public elementary and secondary schools.

Several states governed by Republicans have adopted measures aimed at curtailing the rights of transgender youth.

Some Republican-led states seek to restrict transgender youth’s access to gender-affirming care.

Several organizations, and President Biden, have attempted to stop these laws from being passed.

According to the ACLU, 500 laws or bills introduced at the state level in 2023 seek to restrict LGBTQ rights.

The group has been filing lawsuits around the country in an attempt to overturn some of these laws.

The ACLU stands up for civil rights, including for the LGBTQ+ community.

Several Democratic lawmakers and President Biden have expressed deep concern over these harsh laws.

The US House of Representatives passed a similar bill limiting LGBTQ+ rights

In April, the Republican-majority U.S. House of Representatives approved a concerning bill that would limit LGBTQ+ rights.

This bill would prevent transgender girls from competing in school sports.

Additionally, the ban is extended to all publicly-funded facilities nationwide.

The bill is currently stalled in the Democratic-led Senate, and the White House has threatened to veto the law if it passes.
